Hiking and biking on an
active family holiday in South Tyrol

Spectacular family hikes to the Croda Rossa/Rotwand, through the Val Fiscalina/Fischleintal valley, or to the Three Peaks start right from the Family Resort Rainer. Several times a week, you can join guided hikes – with various lengths and difficulty levels available. Ask at the reception for insider tips and tailor-made route suggestions. Prefer two wheels? Explore the Sexten Dolomites by bike: rent an e-bike directly at the hotel, and ride into the mountains or as far as Sillian in East Tyrol.

Three recommended family hikes

Circular family trail on the Croda Rossa/Rotwand

Difficulty: easy
Walking time: approx. 1.5 hours
Take the Rotwand cable car to the Prati di Croda Rossa/Rotwandwiesen at 1,921 metres above sea level. From there, follow the family trail across the high Alpine pastures, passing the Wildererstand, the “Hexenhaus” (witch’s house), and other family highlights, before looping back to your starting point, where an adventure playground awaits the kids.

Hike in Val Fiscalina/Fischleintal

Difficulty: easy
Walking time: approx. 1 hour
South Tyrolean film producer Luis Trenker once called the Val Fiscalina/Fischleintal “the most beautiful valley in the world” – and we couldn’t agree more. The wide, gently graded path winds picturesquely through the Sexten Dolomites and can be easily navigated with a pushchair as far as the Fondovalle/Talschlusshütte mountain hut. Enjoy fabulous views of the rugged peaks along the way. Keen to head further towards the Three Peaks? The onward route is beautiful – but not suitable for pushchairs.

Alpe Nemes

Difficulty: medium
Walking time: approx. 2 hours
In summer, it’s perfect for hiking and mountaineering; in winter, for cross-country skiing and ski touring – the wonderfully varied Alpe Nemes is reachable directly from Sexten. After your hike, soak up the sun and the Dolomite views on the terrace of the Alpe Nemes mountain hut, treat yourself to a sweet Kaiserschmarrn (torn pancake dish), and enjoy the hut owner’s live accordion music. Fun is guaranteed!

Active in winter:
Fun for all ages

Pull on your ski boots, step outside the hotel, clip in, and glide straight to the cable car valley station. With true ski-in/ski-out accessibility, family winter holidays in Sexten are effortless. Right on the doorstep, you’ll find the slopes of the Mt Elmo/Helm ski area, as well as plenty of winter walking trails (toboggan back for extra fun!), ski-touring routes, cross-country trails reaching into Val Fiscalina/Fischleintal, and more. Get ready for snow-filled days, children’s laughter, and rosy cheeks!

Mountaineering and climbing
on an active family holiday in South Tyrol

Do you prefer an easy scramble or a tougher route? In Sexten and around the legendary Three Peaks, you’ll find countless options for every level. And it’s not only the ancient Dolomite rock that beckons: Dolomitenarena Sexten, one of Italy’s tallest indoor climbing centres, is a true climber’s paradise. Your host Joe – a certified mountain guide with the Drei Zinnen Alpine School – will gladly accompany you on tours, sharing practical tips with adults and kids alike. Once a week, we offer a half-day beginner’s climbing course, as well as guided bike tours (for an additional charge).
